Earby Community Association

Earby Youth Hostel was due to be closed in 2007 and the building sold. To cut a long story short, after a campaign to keep it open and with days to go before it was due to be auctioned, Pendle Borough Council stepped in and bought the building. At the time this was the only way to keep the hostel open.

The YHA relinquished the lease in January 2017 and the building is being  transferred to Earby Town Council which intends to lease the hostel to tenants who will run it on an independent basis.

The Friends of Earby Hostel was set up in 2006 with the following aims:

Over the intervening years the Friends have endeavoured to meet these objectives, through open days, attending other events with information stalls and contributing articles to various magazines and journals.

We are looking at ways of reducing the environmental impact of the hostel through the use of renewable energy sources.

We have had an ongoing garden working party and will be looking at other activities to help maintain the hostel.

The ultimate goal will be to try an secure the future operation of the hostel for generations to come.

We are a small but dedicated group and wish to get more community minded people involved to pursue our objectives.
