Art for kids began in September 2009 and serves the local community by offering a social art class to 8-14 year old children, on most term time Saturday mornings from 9.30-12.00pm.
Over the years the children have created 3d work by making air- drying clay sculptures, wire mobiles, papier- mache, and mod roc models.
We discuss and are introduced to new ideas by looking at the work of old masters, Impressionists and contemporary artists. We have included Mondrian, Van Gogh, Matisse, Dali, and Monet. We have also covered cartoonist’s work and illustrators like Herge, Japanese Manga artists and had a go at watercolours in the style of Quentin Blake.
The children use a variety of mediums including - feltwork, paper and fabric collage, textiles, acrylic and watercolour paintings on canvas and card. We also paint on natural materials, have explored face painting, and this last year created a series of paintings of local Earby landmarks, which are on public view around the community centre.
We charge the minimum amount of £2.00 per session for refreshments, room hire and art materials. We ask for and expect high levels of good conduct and respect for everyone in Art for kids and a commitment to developing personal art skills.
We contact parents by E mail and ask that children are dropped off and picked up by a responsible adult.
